County Cup Champions - Seventh Heaven

A huge congratulations to the Year 7 Girls' Football team who won the County Cup Final on Wednesday 25 May 2016. In an entertaining game they were deserved winners against a strong team from Manor School in Raunds. The girls came out 7 - 5 winners in a thrilling end to end match, which ensures they will go down in Kingswood history as the first ever girls' County Cup Football Champions.

In a fast paced game it was Kingswood who took the lead after Amy Findlay used her electric pace to break down the right hand side of the pitch and drill a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net. Raunds then quickly equalised with a powerful shot ricocheting off the underside of the cross bar to just beat the outstretched hands of the impressive Kingswood goalkeeper Amber Findlay. Raunds then pressured Kingswood but resolute defending from the back three of Lauren Cruse-Carley, Dragana Zelnik and the commanding Katlyn McShane kept their chances to a minimum.

The strength and class of the Kingswood midfield then began to show and dominate. Captain Georgia Berry, Lola Fisk, Chelsea Teeboon and Marlee Muir, who played her best game to date for the team, carved out two further chances for Amy Findlay who completed her hat trick before half term. At half time Kingswood led 3 -1. However within two minutes of the second half Raunds scored two goals to bring the game back to 3 - 3.

It was at this point that Kingswood proved their most impressive. Lesser teams would buckle under the pressure but not our girls. They chased down every ball, encouraged each other and it was this grit and determination that was the key to victory. Mia Fleming, Jolene Greer and Chelsea Briffa all came on to strengthen the tiring legs. Then up stepped Amy Findlay. In the most remarkable performance she went on to score all 7 goals. A huge cheer by the bumper crowd marked the final whistle and Kingswood are now County Champions.

A special mention to the Year 11 coaches Molly Campbell and Taylor Scully who have been fantastic role models and helped inspire the girls to victory.
