Football News

Both the Years 8 and 9 football teams have been on winning form lately with victories in the National Cup.

Year 8

The Year 8 football team continued where they left off last season, in winning form beating Uppingham Community College 8-3 in the National Cup.

On a rainy day in Leicestershire the lads played some superb football in a tight first half which ended 2-2 with goals from Jamie Porter and James Elder. After a half time discussion, the formation was changed to suit the wide pitch and paid off with Kingswood running out 8-3 winners with second half goals coming from Joe McBearty (2), Jamie Porter, Adam Witkowski, an own goal and finished off with a good finish from Man of the Match Taylor Holland.

A special mention must go to our captain Joe McBearty who has been injured and ill recently but also had an outstanding game capped off with 2 goals.

The National Cup Squad consisted of Brandon Lovegrove, Andrew Muir, Joe Martin, James Elder, Aiden Welsh, CJ Tanga Gibson, Jack Tipper, Joe McBearty, Taylor Holland, Charlie Dawson, Aiden Haggar, Adam Witkowski, Jake Ward, Dan Smith, Jamie Porter and Joe Lynch.

Year 9

Lee Tosh led the Year 9 Football Team to a well earned victory against a much fancied Northampton Academy side. It was a tough draw for the first round of the National Cup and Kingswood were under pressure in the early minutes. However Thomas Findlay, in his first start for Kingswood School, expertly marshalled the back line of goalkeeper Jake Buckingham, Jamie Glenn, George Blackie and captain Chris Knapp. Kingswood weathered the early storm and took the lead when a curling free kick from Lewis Armour was powerfully headed onto the post by Lee Tosh, who then followed the rebound up to score. Early in the second half Northampton Academy equalised prompting a pitch invasion from the home support! However, Kingswood maintained their composure and were unlucky not to clinch victory through efforts from David Witkowski, Oran Doherty, Lee Tosh and Lewis Armour. The game remained a draw throughout extra time and therefore went to penalties. Chris Knapp won the toss and elected for Kingswood to take the first kick. David Witkowski stepped up to the mark to coolly convert. Goalkeeper Jake Buckingham then saved the next two Academy penalties and both Lee Tosh and Chris Knapp scored for Kingswood to send them through to the next round of this prestigious tournament. They now face an away fixture with Northampton School for Boys on Thursday 29th September.

Well done to the entire squad who battled tirelessly and deserved this victory.

Jake Buckingham, George Blackie, Jamie Glenn, Chris Knapp, Thomas Findlay, Lewis Sullivan, David Witkowski, Lewis Armour, Lee Tosh, Oran Doherty, Morgan Winter, Shaun Frost.
