Rambert 'Awakenings' Dance Trip

On Thursday 3rd March the Dance Department took students from Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form to the Royal and Derngate Theatre in Northampton to watch the Rambert Dance Company perform in their new show.

Rambert is a prestigious dance company and was the 2010 winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for outstanding achievement in Dance.  Here at Kingswood our students study the style of contemporary dance at GCSE and ‘A’ Level and Rambert is one of the best British companies for using this style.

The triple bill of performances included a brand new work by UK Choreographer Aletta Collins, inspired by Dr Sacks’ book which was made famous by the 1990 Hollywood film ‘Awakenings’.  This was the first dance interpretation of these remarkable stories.

The students were able to see the dancers warm up and received a pre-show talk with both the company and Rambert’s very own artistic director Mark Baldwin.  The students enjoyed the whole experience and behaved impeccably.  We were particularly impressed with Chelsea Scott talking Portuguese with one of the dancers and Joseph Johnson’s choreographic feedback after the show.  The whole day was a pleasure and the students were a credit to us!
